Stage 1 Cont: Paint Removal (pt 2)

After scraping away the majority of the paint, only a few stubborn spots remained. We reapplied the paint thinner to the problem areas and removed them with a scouring pad. A sturdy plastic brush was the most useful tool in the whole process. The original owner used so much paint the valleys of the molding were almost filled. When the paint loosened up, the latex in it made it difficult to scrape off. Instead, when we tried to rub it away, it balled up and it was difficult to get under it. The brush made easier work of it while a razor blade scraped along narrow details got down under even the most problematic areas.
